JDSC’s early childhood education develops learners’ confidence, literacy, numeracy, and emotional and social skills. To ensure healthy child development of all preschoolers, the school conducts small class size with emphasis on holistic education to address individual’s physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs. The school provides more than care and education to students as it builds strong partnership with parents and families, too.
Sustainability is at the heart of JDSC’s curriculum and thus, as young as two years old, pupils learn more about nature. They are given the freedom to explore, learn from, and connect with the environment, thereby unlocking their creativity and imagination, too. Through field visits, interaction with experts, and play-based activities, young kids learn how to care for the environment and how to become active citizens to create a more sustainable world.
For literacy, stories are incorporated in every lesson to develop the skills and interest for reading as well as target their decoding, fluency, vocabulary and critical thinking skills. Art activities such as drawing, painting, using clay, among others are encouraged to enhance students’ fine motor skills, creativity, communication, and other skills. Likewise, children engage in music and movement as well as pretend and dramatic play even during online classes.
The JDSC Preschool program uses The Virtues Project in teaching and developing virtues, such as resilience, leadership, and service through creative activities that foster connection among learners. These interactions provide them the opportunity to develop strong virtues that lead them to form meaningful relationships, and increased sense of social and emotional intelligence.
