A. Attire and Grooming

  1. Wearing a uniform is a badge of pride and have Deweyans practice respect and self-discipline. At John Dewey, ALL pupils are required to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is NOT allowed.
  2. All students must be in full uniform when they are in school or when attending any activities organized by the school.
  3. The school uniform consists of:
    • a blue polo shirt with logo of the school on the chest and a pair of khaki cargo pants.
    • a pair of rubber shoes (NOT costly)
    • plain white socks
  4. For Physical Education, Fitness lessons, and sports practices, students must be in blue school jogging pants with school name, red PE T-shirt, and rubber shoes.
  5. ID and school badge must be worn at all times when in school uniform.
  6. Pupils are to practice cleanliness and modesty. Wearing of branded clothes such as rubber shoes, sweat shirts, jackets, etc. is highly DISCOURAGED.
  7. Nails should be kept clean, short, and unvarnished.
  8. For girls, no jewellery is allowed except for a pair of small ear stud.

B. Academic Expectations

  1. Deweyans are to practice responsibility by bringing the required books, notebooks, homework, and materials for lessons.
  2. Students are to practice self-discipline by handing in completed homework and projects on time.

C. General Discipline

  1. Punctuality

    • Deweyans must be in school on time from Monday to Friday and every time there is a school activity or event during weekends.
  2. Conduct

    • All students must attend the flag-raising ceremony at assigned times during school days.
    • Pupils who are Filipino citizens must sing the National Anthem. Pupils will take the Pledge with the right palm placed over the heart.
    • Orderliness and silence must be observed during the flag-raising ceremony.
    • No pupil is allowed to leave the classroom without the teacher’s permission.
    • Pupils must help to keep the school clean by not littering. They are also assigned tasks every school day to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom and the school.
    • Each student should keep the toilets clean and flush after use.
    • Students must move about the school in a peaceful and orderly manner.
    • Pupils should speak softly and courteously. They are honest and trustworthy at all times.
    • Deweyans are expected to be respectful to everyone at all times. They are to cooperate with others and do their best in every task assigned to them.
  3. Absence / Dismissal

    • Leave of absence from school must be authenticated by a medical certificate.
    • Letter from parents may be accepted at the discretion of the school.
    • Absence from school examinations for medical reasons must be authenticated by a valid medical certificate. Letters of excuse will NOT be accepted.
    • If a pupil is likely to be absent for three (3) days or more at a stretch, the school must be informed and a medical certificate must be presented to be excused.
    • No pupil may leave the school premises during school hours i.e. before dismissal, without the consent of the Level Coordinator and School Directress. Pupils must be accompanied by parent and guardian.
    • Early departures from school must be recorded in the Early Dismissal Form issued by the Admin Officer.
    • Prior permission must be obtained from the School Directress for any special leave e.g. overseas trips.
  4. Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

    • CCA is compulsory for all grade school and high school students.
    • CCA attire is to be worn only on Fridays and on normal school days when there are activities and competitions.
  5. General

    • All visitors must report at the security personnel before proceeding to the Administrative Office where the office staff will attend to them.
    • Deweyans are expected to exhibit acceptable attitude toward fellow students, teachers, staff, visitors, and other individuals at all times. Pupils who fail to abide by the school rules will receive interventions to help learn to make better choices.
    • Parents or pupils who repeatedly fail to conform to the JDSC School Rules will be called to meet the School Directress. Their parents and guardians will also be called to meet with the child’s teachers and the School Directress.
